BOSSES at The Midland Hotel are encouraging guests to share details of their experience at the hotel following mixed reactions during the first week's opening.

The operations director at the hotel, Olivier Delaunoy, says nothing could have prepare
d them for the level of interest The Midland has received and after complaints of poor and slow service, new managers are being employed and the training and cleaning programme will be reviewed.

"We are delighted to have delivered our promise to open on June 1.

However, as with any renovation project, there has been additional work to be conducted behind the scenes and we have done our very best to avoid this impacting on our guests' stay," said Mr Delaunoy.

Urban Splash's response comes after a number of complaints from members of the public.

Neil Huggins of Parliament Street in Morecambe cancelled his booking at the hotel because he saw that work was still going on.

He said: "I will never stay there now. They've taken the shine off it."

Michael Glen called at The Midland's bar last Saturday evening en route to The Carleton for a black tie Morecambe FC dinner.

He said the service was extremely slow even though the bar wasn't that busy. He also said bar areas looked messy and pointed out there was no double door on the gents' toilets, leaving ladies 'a wonderful sight' if the door was left open.

"I had such great expectations and was greatly saddened by what I found at the hotel," he said.

Other guests who contacted The Visitor complained about the gravel on the car park ruining their shoes and said there were problems with the automatic doors not working at the entrance.

Mr Delaunoy said: "We encourage our guests to share details of their experience with us so that we can endeavour to provide the best possible service."

The gravel car park is a temporary design and will be replaced with a tarmac driveway and parking area.

This work has been brought forward and will be completed by the end of June.
n The next test for the staff at The Midland hotel will be the first charity ball in aid of the NCH children's charity to be held there tomorrow, Thursday, June 12 at 7pm.

DiggerDriver,

Utter rubbish!
What he meant to say was as with any big project any work overun will bring on financial penalties so we bodged it to open on time!

Financial penalties? Imposed by who? The bloke quoted works for Urban Splash, who own the hotel. So they'd have penalised themselves for not completing on time?

Criticise them by all means (as you do with everything else) but at least try to make sense.

There is a mean spiritedness in the heart of some
Morecambe folk that defies belief. If the Midland
has had some initial teething problems, so what?
Look at the fantastic sight that now graces the
Prom and compare the sad rusting shell that stood
there three years' back when I was last in town.
Digger Driver is always quick to rush into print
and equally quick to condemn any forward thinking
enterprise in the town. Perhaps he should engage brain
before being so swift with the slag-offs. Also, someone point him in the direction of Spellchecker. Please...?

For those less educated in the ways of politics and its puppy (The Construction Industry) there is an old saying!
"The most important tool on any job is the brown envelope"
You can have the contract for 10 grand extra and we will go halves!
Or You can have the contract but my house needs an extension!
The work on the Midland was Sub-contracted!
Urban Splash is a management company just like any other main contractor!
I have been in this game over 20 years for the sole reason that everyones wheels get greased!
Look how much public owned land in Morecambe has been sold to private investors!
Be honest with yourselves!
Who would want to invest in Morecambe without a good return?
The Midland wont return its investment without sidelines!

To be blunt!
Morecambes being turned over!
And your so dumb you think your getting a bargain!

And you're so dumb that basic grammar and spelling
by-pass your self-opinionated skull.
Some of your postings could actually lead to some
good, informed discourse. Pity the bar-room rant
usually spoils the central platform.
Oh, and point of style - lose the tiresome
exclamation marks. It's like reading Glenda Slagg
in Private Eye.

I am beginning to wonder whether the Midland really is open. I sent them an email enquiry about rooms on June 6th and still haven't received a reply. I tried phoning this evening - Saturday night - and no reply!!
Not impressed.

Ladys and Gents.. couple of things.
1. Mr Digger Driver, I am afraid you are wrong. of course some work was contracted out to local trademan and other specialists, but overall, the build was completed but Urban Splash.. Build. Go see the remaining containers on site, with the big white letterint that says 'BUILD' - I am afraid, no matter how long you have 'been in the game' you are mistaken in your assumption.
The project management on the site, guess who employed them.. Yup Urban splash. As for management company, well yes they are property managers, but own, run and build everything they manage.
2. boot - from bolton. Give them a little break. Unless you have friends that email you 2-300 emails per day enquiring about everything from tours of your house to booking a function in it for 180 people, cut some slack that someone hasn't personally responded to you in the first week or trading. The place is booked out for a year for events, and at the end of the day you can use the website for your room booking. all the information is there available. www.midlandmorecambe.co.uk.
3. Anyone else that wants to slate it, read this article and my other comment at the end, following another Lancaster resident that wants to play them and us. Thanks
