BOSSES at The Midland Hotel are encouraging guests to share details of their experience at the hotel following mixed reactions during the first week's opening.
The operations director at the hotel, Olivier Delaunoy, says nothing could have prepare
d them for the level of interest The Midland has received and after complaints of poor and slow service, new managers are being employed and the training and cleaning programme will be reviewed.
"We are delighted to have delivered our promise to open on June 1.
However, as with any renovation project, there has been additional work to be conducted behind the scenes and we have done our very best to avoid this impacting on our guests' stay," said Mr Delaunoy.
Urban Splash's response comes after a number of complaints from members of the public.
Neil Huggins of Parliament Street in Morecambe cancelled his booking at the hotel because he saw that work was still going on.
He said: "I will never stay there now. They've taken the shine off it."
Michael Glen called at The Midland's bar last Saturday evening en route to The Carleton for a black tie Morecambe FC dinner.
He said the service was extremely slow even though the bar wasn't that busy. He also said bar areas looked messy and pointed out there was no double door on the gents' toilets, leaving ladies 'a wonderful sight' if the door was left open.
"I had such great expectations and was greatly saddened by what I found at the hotel," he said.
Other guests who contacted The Visitor complained about the gravel on the car park ruining their shoes and said there were problems with the automatic doors not working at the entrance.
Mr Delaunoy said: "We encourage our guests to share details of their experience with us so that we can endeavour to provide the best possible service."
The gravel car park is a temporary design and will be replaced with a tarmac driveway and parking area.
This work has been brought forward and will be completed by the end of June.
n The next test for the staff at The Midland hotel will be the first charity ball in aid of the NCH children's charity to be held there tomorrow, Thursday, June 12 at 7pm.
