Morecambe make winning start to Twenty20

PHIL Thornton saw Morecambe to a convincing victory over Carnforth in the Northern League Twenty20 Cup on Friday.

Thornton powered his way to 36 not out at Morecambe made 82-3, passing their target of 78 halfway through the 12th over.

Earlier, young bowler Graeme Cassidy impressed with 4-16 as Carnforth were dismissed for only 77.

Carnforth pro Ryan Bailey failed to continue his electric form with the bat as he was bowled by Ryan Smith for 14.

The defeat means Carnforth are out of the cup with one game remaining, at Morecambe on Tuesday.

Morecambe also have two matches to play against Lancaster, who are so far unbeaten in two matches.
